Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400/2500 series printer "X cartridge not installed"
One of the most frustrating features of the Magicolor 2400/2500 series of printers is the very annoying X Cartridge not installed message
This error message can occur at any time with both original cartridges and or refilled cartridges. It is caused by either toner / paper dust covering either the chip on the toner cartridge or dust covering the chip sensor inside the printer. It can also be caused by a faulty chip reader inside the printer.
The printer uses a carousel to rotate the toner cartridges. Dust and toner can easily spill as the cartridges rotate. The error can appear at any time but seems to be most annoying after a paper jam or other error.
It is also important to make sure that the cartridges themselves are clear of toner dust. Pay particulair attention to any copper contacts on the cartridge.
Their is also sensor is at the bottom of the printer and is thus prone to being blocked by dust, it is also very easy to damage (and can wear out very easily as each cartridge rotates past).
Information is relevant for the following printers
- KONICA MINOLTA MAGICOLOR 2400W
- KONICA MINOLTA MAGICOLOR 2430 DL
- KONICA MINOLTA MAGICOLOR 2450
- KONICA MINOLTA MAGICOLOR 2480MF

- KONICA MINOLTA MAGICOLOR 2550EN

To view the chip sensor you will need to remove the drum unit and cartridges
Chip Sensor

Resolution
The resolution is normally fairly simple.
1. Gently clean any toner dust from the small microchip on each cartridge
2. Gently clean any toner dust from the 3 copper sensor prongs on the chip sensor (inside the printer)
3 Prongs on chip sensor

The sensor is very easy to damage. If cleaning the sensor does not work we would suggest contacting Konica Minolta for a replacement part.
4.Wipe clean with a dry cloth all the copper contacts on the cartridges (Opposite end to the chip).
5. Wipe clean all the silver contact springs in the cartridge bays (the bays are the parts that the cartridge sits in)
